AI has become a go-to tool for CV writing.
In fact nearly 70% of people admit to using AI to help them write their CV’s.
And when used well, it can be a real asset.
But like most tools, the magic is in how you use it.
Here are some tips on how to use AI effectively for your CV:
🟨 Use it as a coach, not a ghostwriter. Let AI suggest structure, wording, or formatting improvements, but make sure you are still the author of your story.
🟨 Tailor with your own voice. AI can make your CV sound slick, but employers want to see you. Keep your tone authentic and your achievements personal.
🟨 Check for accuracy. AI often “enhances” skills or adds keywords that don’t reflect your actual experience. You don’t want to be caught off-guard in an interview when asked about something you never did.
🟨 Keep it relevant. Use AI to align your CV with a specific job spec, but always double-check that what’s on the page matches your real skills and achievements.
🟨 Final polish = human check. Save as a PDF, check formatting, spelling, and flow. Better yet, get a friend or mentor to give it a once-over.
Oh and get rid of those stupid em dashes (—)!
AI is a great helper.
But your CV is your professional fingerprint.
It needs to be honest, accurate, and uniquely yours.
