As hiring managers, often a happy, yet tough decision you have to make is choosing between multiple strong candidates.
Just recently, a client who initially chose a different candidate came back to us a month later, expressing a desire to hire our original candidate.
The reason it was easy for us to re-engage the candidate was that the client had given us really good feedback and had thereby left the door open for us to go back to this candidate.
Little or no feedback in a hiring process often leaves a really bad taste in a candidate’s mouth and re-engaging them at a later stage therefore also becomes very difficult.
There is real value in keeping the door open, even when a candidate isn’t selected. Here’s why:
1. Clear Communication: When a client provides detailed feedback and leaves the door open for future opportunities, it’s easier to reconnect with the candidate later. This transparency helps candidates understand the situation and keeps them engaged for potential future roles.
2. Avoiding Regret: Sometimes, clients might regret their decision and want to revisit previous candidates. Having a positive and open relationship with those candidates makes re-engagement smoother and more effective.
3. Building Trust: Keeping the lines of communication open, even after a rejection, builds trust and maintains a positive reputation for your company. It shows candidates that you value their time and efforts, regardless of the outcome.
In today’s competitive job market, it’s crucial to foster a culture of respect and openness.
Let’s remember to keep those lines of communication open and build lasting relationships with all candidates.
